Mike Johnson of Ross-on-Wye cider wins CAMRA Pomona award
Congratulations to Mike Johnson, proprietor of the Ross-on-Wye Cider and Perry company, for his well deserved achievement of CAMRA's Pomona award.
This award is given most years, but not all, to the person or persons, group or organisation who have done the most to promote real cider and perry during the previous 12 months, or for ongoing work.
Mike's ciders and perries, produced at Broome Farm near Ross-on-Wye, are masterpieces of blending, and unlike most producers, walking into Mike's cellar you'll be presented with the names of the apples used for each barrel, and generally they'll be different each time you go. Sometimes he has as little as a single barrel of a particular blend.
Mike has a fantastic palate and really enjoys discussing flavours with his customers. One of the pioneering ranges he has produced is a set of bottled single-varietal ciders, along with blending notes, so his customers can mix the precise blend they like for themselves.
This Pomona award follows on from Mike's attainment of First Prize at the prestigious Three Counties competition earlier in the year.
