A bumper year for perry.

I've spoken to both Severn Cider and Ross-on-Wye Cider recently and they both report a bumper crop of perry pears this year, so we can expect 2010 to be the year of perry.

Both of these producers are perry experts, so their beverages are bound to be in great demand.

I predict that next year will be the year where proper perry takes over from the so-called "pear cider", in the way that proper farmhouse cider surged in popularity after the so-called "Magner's effect". This can only be a good thing. Most people have a perception of perries as being sweet, but some of the finest perries I've tried this year have been dry - Thorn perry from Gwatkins, or Moorcroft  and Hendre Huffcap varietals from Ross-on-Wye.

If you haven't tried perry yet, 2010 will be the ideal time to give it a go as you'll be spoilt for choice.
